Powerball Gamemode Variant

An idea I had for reviving powerball / another powerball like gamemode like a year ago. Just figured why not share it here :>

Basics:
- 2 Teams

- 1 Ball

- 1 Goal

Rough gamemode explanation:

One Team[T1] is always in the attacking[A] position and one Team[T2] is always in the defending[D] position.

The Goal spawns in a semi-random location, the Goal-Location[GL]. There are at least 10 different possible [GL]'s, which the developers/mapdesigners carefully position across the map.

Both teams spawn on opposite sides of the map and close to their teammates as a bundle.
The ball spawns near by the [A] team.
When the game starts, [T1], which is [A], will be inside a spawn room where they cannot escape for 10 more seconds, but are able to preserve the map from a good viewing angle.
In that time, [T2], which is [D], can already fly to an advantageous position.
Both teams are already aware of where the Goal will be.

Both teams also have a time bank[t], which only descends when [A].

The goal for [A] is to score the ball as fast as possible, to remain their [t] as long as possible.

After a goal is scored, the team roles switch and [T1] is now [D] and [T2] is now [A] without any pause ingame! There is a fluid transition between attacking and defending.

For "round 2" which happenes immediatly after a goal is scored without teleporting any player, the [GL] will switch and the ball spawns far away from the [GL], so that the new [D] team also now has about 10 seconds before the [A] starts [A]ing.

This goes back and forth until the [t] of a team runs out, in that case, that team loses. When the [A] team runs out of [t], they will have to fully defend in the next round to force Sudden Death/Overtime (the team that attacks faster wins).

[D] can only return the ball to its starting position. They cannot grab it.

[A] cannot retake the ball when players of [D] are returning it. But an [A] player can pause the progress of returning when also in range of the ball.

Goal mechanics:

These are just some ideas that might or might not work in this specific gamemode:

-shooting the ball into the goal to score

or -shooting the ball into the goal and then having to get close to the goal to hold a button for 3 seconds to score.

-the defending team can eject the ball from the goal before it scores

I personally find that the biggest issue with powerball is that after the ball is picked up the main objective switches to killing enemies, either because you're too far away to catch up or because teamplay with the ball is usually not profitable.

Do you have any idea on how to battle this within your gamemode idea, which sounds quite fun for the rest.

The mode would be based around killing. Hopefully team fights. Think Overwatch CTF (in a way, but not really).

For the "catching up" thing...
In this mode you don't switch between attacking and defending ALL the time, like you would have with old Powerball. You don't stop an enemy from scoring to then turn around to also try to score. Instead, you can concentrate on one of these. When a goal is scored by you, your team then switches to defense and the other team attacks. You have a few seconds, as the enemy team has to get the ball (which is supposed to spawn away enough from the new goal location) and you can move in position. You will most likely not change that position all too much as you need to defend one spot at a time. Once the enemy DOES eventually score though, that position changes again.
This should in theory bring all the players closer together regardless of map size, so catching up is easier if not unnecessary as the enemy needs to come to you.

Hope this answers your questions :>
